About

The musical project from St. Petersburg appeared as a funk orchestra for the musical accompaniment of breaking and hip-hop battles, mainly at the V1 battles festival, but also at other events. Inspired by the legendary SoulTrane parties, hip-hop culture and jazz music, the musicians created their own sound at the intersection of funk, afrobeat, jazz and hip-hop. The band has always been dominated by professional jazz musicians, but the music was largely influenced by the beatmaking culture, the African musical tradition, jazz and funk of the 70s – early 80s; in the sound you can hear the influence of the late Miles Davis, Prince instrumental albums, Lafayette Afro Rock Band recordings, A Tribe Call Quest, Fela Kuti and bands of the category Rare Funk. Now Funkodoxals exists as a solo project of independent producer and musician Evgeny Tislenko (Eugene Modin in fb/inst) Initially, the music from the album was intended to accompany the final stage of the breaking dancers' competition, so all the compositions sound at the same tempo and have approximately the same duration. Although the main material was written in the summer of 2016, but due to organizational difficulties and lack of funding, it was possible to make a full-fledged release only in 2022. https://msha.ke/funkodoxals/
